@gobino did a very interesting test to evaluate whether the Fujifilm X-half would suit him.
I agree with him on many points regarding my experience with the Polaroid Flip, which I love using, even if I don’t take a huge number of photos with it:
- I like not needing to edit the photos simply because it isn’t possible.
- The fact that each photo costs you money forces you to focus on the shot to give yourself the best chance of it turning out well. You have to be intentional.
- The surprise of seeing the photo reveal itself a few minutes later to discover whether your subject is blurry or sharp. Not having a screen allows you to concentrate on the moment rather than the result.
- Having the physical photo in your hands is just brilliant. I’m actually on the verge of buying a photo printer to print my digital photos rather than having them stay forever on a hard drive.
- The shooting experience anchors the moment in time, and you appreciate the photo as it is and not as you have transformed it.
I had actually hesitated about buying an X-half, but the price made me see sense and since then, I’ve got an X-E5 (which was a Christmas present).
Besides, with this X-E5, my ultimate goal is to spend as little time as possible behind a computer editing my photos. I am tweaking and experimenting with Fuji recipes to find “my” style and, eventually, shoot solely in JPEG (HEIF, really) in a few weeks (or months?).
